Three shadows and a hot sidewalk

Three shadows on hot asphalt – one walk, one summer, one frame Layla grabbed before we kept moving.

A family portrait with no faces – just angle, heat, and three silhouettes stitched together by late-day light.

Notes

All shadow, all story

This started as a quick photo on a walk, nothing staged, nothing precious. Layla pointed the camera down and caught the three of us as shadows stretched over sun-heated pavement. No faces, no horizon, no background details asking for attention.

The perspective does most of the work. Bodies turn into long shapes, hands become connectors, and ordinary motion reads like a single linked form. The image is simple, but the geometry is not. It is mostly diagonals, one major negative space, and a lot of implied movement.

Color is reduced to two decisions: heat and shadow. Orange holds the memory of hot asphalt. Deep navy carries the figures as one continuous cutout. No gradients, no texture rendering, no extra values. Just enough contrast to keep the moment immediate.

What changed is time. That walk was years ago, and Squeaks is an adult now. The scene is ordinary in the best way, but that is exactly why it lasts. A quick family snapshot became a small record of who we were, held in silhouette.
